Click Wisely: Lessons on Responsible Cyber Conduct

Today, we are surrounded by screens 24×7. Life feels almost impossible without phones, tablets, laptops, and most importantly—the Internet. This technology has made us smarter and more productive. The projects that took days during my school years might now take only a few hours for you. That is the power of technology. However, this power comes with challenges such as cyberbullying, online trolling, and morphed videos.

Online trolling and “dark humour” may amuse some people, but they can leave deep psychological scars, especially during a person’s formative years. With the rise of social media, what is created once stays online permanently, constantly reminding the victim of the negativity directed at them.

Morphed images and videos have become a major threat to digital safety. You may have seen situations where your parents share a video about a riot or someone’s “death,” and when you verify it, you find that the content is fake. Such manipulated media has caused confusion and panic—especially during elections, disasters, and terrorist incidents. The rapid growth of Artificial Intelligence has only magnified this problem.

So, should we stop using technology altogether? The answer is a definite no. Instead, we must use it responsibly. You—the students of today—are the future of our nation. The future must be smart and tech-savvy, yet also aware and cautious.

SDecide today that you will not participate in cyberbullying or online trolling. Secure your devices, stay alert to phishing scams, report suspicious activities, and help your elders understand safe online behaviour. Through these collective efforts, we can ensure a safer and more responsible digital future for everyone.
